Douchebag of the Week (Mar. 14-20)
You always know you’re in for something good when Bernie Goldberg says, “Let me speak with some expertise here.” Talking down to people is something he probably thinks he’s pretty good at.
Goldberg is the author of titles such as “100 People Who Are Screwing Up America” (which Boston Globe columnist Cathy Young suggested could have been called, ”90-plus Leftists and Liberals — and a Few Token Right-Wingers — Who Are Screwing Up America”) and “Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News” (which Minnesota Senator comedian Al Franken suggested could have been called, “Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How CBS Didn’t Give Him the Career He Wanted”).
With a catalogue like that, Goldberg is clearly an ideal candidate to be a media analyst for Fox News. And on the St. Patty’s Day episode of the O’Reilly Factor, Bill O asked Bernie to chime in his two cents regarding Jackie Mason uttering a derogatory term for blacks.
Of course, Mason got into hot water for the exact same word 20 years ago, and two decades later the term is … well:
O’Reilly: OK, but here’s what the dictionary says. The dictionary says the word s-c-h-v-a-r-t-z-e — “often disparaging and offensive.”
Goldberg: Forgive my arrogance. The dictionary is written by some liberal person.
Yes, sir! That earns full douchebag honors for the week: actually insinuating that the dictionary being cited by Bill O’Reilly (of all people) has a liberal bias. Does this man have no shame?
